Everyone always talks about fragile masculinity in relation to cis men, but never talk about how it inevitably affects trans men. It can be difficult to express yourself in your true style when you’re bombarded by gatekeepers, invalidated and made to feel like you have to be hyper-masculine to avoid being misgendered. This evolves into toxic masculinity and later, other undesirable traits. Cis men often get called “brave”, “powerful” for wearing feminine things and being in touch with the femininity, whilst trans men get questioned, “are you really trans?”. This project depicts expressing yourself how you want to, if it’s harmless, and taking back the femininity trans men have to eradicate to be taken seriously.
